Blogging For hire?

Recently,I have become aware of a brew-ha-ha in the garden blogging world.

And I just don’t get it.

Why do most gardeners blog?

I know why I do.

Growing up in a family of gardeners,I started blogging as an easy way to keep far flung family and friends informed of what was going on,on TheGreatWallofLutz.

My father kept a meticulous, handwritten diary of his garden (of which,I am the proud possessor-yessiree!!!).
I use the electronic medium.
It’s just so easy to click on a label and see where the garden has been.
And I hate to write.
I would rather type.
I don’t blog for the hopes of freebies,of which I have been offered.
…And declined,or ignored….
I blog just for the simple reason of keeping a record of my garden.
If people chose to follow….great.
…If not,great,too…
If you chose to comment, even greater.
…But,at least,make it constructive,please...
I more than welcome the input, because sometimes,I hit the gardening block.
And need new ideas.
Or,
someone to tell me I’m nuts and don’t even think of doing that or growing that.

But,I don’t blog in anticipation of freebies,or give-a-ways.

Or in hopes of being the next great garden writer.

I just want to keep a written record of my garden.
And,
maybe,
just maybe,
someone will tell me I’m going in the right direction….

Am I missing something?

Life Begins Anew...............

Note:This is not the original post I had planned for today. That one shall have to wait for another day.Read on-you will understand why .

As you know,we have been babysitting three Swallowtail chrysallis, for a week.Yesterday, the first one emerged(you can read about that here).Today,I was determined to photograph the whole sequence,so I was up at 6 AM,in my jammies(bare butt hanging out-bet the neighbors loved that!),coffee and camera in hand, patiently waiting for what I hoped would happen.
The sun was just starting to come up,so the lighting is not too good in the first two pictures.

The photos above and below are the final two chrysallis.
When what to my wondering eyes should emerge ?! A boy AND a girl!!!

(note-the female was more hidden than the male,so there are not many pictures of her. Most of these photos are of the male.)

Note the spent chrysallis below the Swallowtail.
Wings still folded and wet,he crawled to the tip of a pineapple plant.
And hung upside down,to allow the fluid to spread to his wings.
As the sun arose higer in the sky,he started to spread his wings more and more......
Until, fnally, they both flew off.The male first, and then the female. She flew to a nearby palm tree, and rested for a bit, before finally taking off for the last time.
After seeing these photos,I changed my mind regarding my original plan for today's post.
I thought about the newness(is there such a term?) that happens everyday in the garden.
The beginnings of new life that occurs
everyday.
Right before our unseeing eyes.
A squirrel shredding cypress bark for a nest,in anticipation of little ones...........
A new rose,to beautify the garden...............
A new plumeria..................
and a new Heliconia,to brighten the pool area...............
A new hibiscus to add life to the garden...............
There are new beginnings all around us.
Everywhere.
Everyday.
You just have to look for it.

Angel's Trumpets

This past winter,I wrote of the Great Freezes of '09,which struck Florida, and the devastation that happened upon the GreatWall. You can read about that great sadness here.
But hope is eternal, and the Angel's Trumpets have survived and are thriving.I love when they are in bud,and flowering at the same time.
When they first open up,they are white, and then their color changes to........

....... the prettiest,palest peach color!

This is a 3-fer post, because,as some you already know,we are incredibly lazy arse people!
